Taproot
Hello There!
Thank you for finding me! I am Dawn Eichin. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) and psychotherapist in the Commonwealth of Virginia. I am so excited to bring Taproot Wellness out of the corner of my heart and my imagination out into the world to share with you. This project was born out of years of clinical work that evolved away from narrow clinical modalities and toward a holistic wellness orientation.
It struck me early and often in my career how little attention we pay toward our overall health and wellness on a day-to-day basis. The things we eat, the way we move our bodies, the influence of our social circle, our media consumption, the books we read, our relationships, the hobbies we pursue, our home environment…all of these things have a tremendous impact on how we think, feel, react and respond to everyday stressors. Simply put, we have much more control over our mental health than we realize!
I have learned that a strong biological foundation supports resilient emotional wellness. As such, I am personally drawn to the analogy of the taproot – that gnarled, twisted, determined, tough core root that develops and dives deep, deep down into the earth and takes in nutrients to support the towering life above ground. Do you see the connection? If we focus on and prioritize our core physical and emotional health (root) as well as the environment that feeds it (soil), our overall wellness and vitality blooms. WE bloom. How great is that?!
And so, my clinical orientation involves a holistic view of a whole person that includes health, lifestyle, family, education, culture, history, relationships, career, victories, regrets, the ALL. In short, I do not view or treat humans through a narrow diagnostic lens. The concept of wellness is the foundation of my work. I utilize many tools in therapy customized to your specific needs; I draw from modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Family Systems Therapy, Crisis Intervention, Behavioral Activation Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)…to name a few of my favorites.
Please understand that in my therapy room, you are not regarded as a diagnosis, you are the sum of infinitely fascinating, complex, beautiful parts!
Welcome to Taproot Wellness !
